Vineyard
The 2007 Ladera Sauvignon Blanc is comprised of a blend of three different clones: Sauvignon Musque, Clone #1 and Liparita Selection. The original vines were planted in 1997 and then grafted from a Merlot in 2003. We have experienced great success from these plantings and have since continued converting more acreage to Sauvignon Blanc. This success is due to the location of this vineyard; low lying, cool and damp; as well as the unique weather and soil profiles of Howell Mountain. As these Sauvignon Blanc vines mature, we are seeing more and more of the inherent characteristics of this varietal and we are increasingly excited to produce this unique, crisp and refreshing wine.

The Sauvignon Blanc was the first fruit to ripen initiating the 2007 harvest. Picking began on August 21, 2007 and completed on August 30, 2007. Due to the early harvest, the Sauvignon Blanc was picked in small quantities and at several intervals. In total, we had seven individual lots which were all aged separately.

Winemaking and Tasting Notes
The fruit was picked in the early morning hours in order to utilize the cold temperatures. The grapes were immediately pressed as whole clusters. The juice was then cold settled for 24 hours and racked clean of sediment. It was fermented slowly at cool temperatures and aged using a combination of new French oak barrels (8%), neutral barrels (20%) and small stainless steel barrels (72%). This combination of different vessels in conjunction with sur lie aging, helped to create a balanced wine. A total of 690 cases were bottled on February 25, 2008.

Like a coastal drive in a racy convertible, this wine evokes a myriad of sensory delights. It is pleasing to the eye with its beautiful golden hue. The aromas are laden with fresh pear, lemongrass, honeydew and jasmine. The entry of this wine is clean and polished with a lively attack on the palate. The body is viscous and is supported by crisp acidity and slight minerality. The flavors show hints of kiwi, lime, tangerine rind and green apple. The finish is lingering and quenching.
